  • Apollo Global Management will acquire Smart & Final Stores Inc (NYSE:SFS) for approximately $1.1 billion, including debt.
  • Gen.Ga Playa Vista, Calif.-based esports organization, raised $46 million in funding. Investors include Will Smith, Los Angeles Clippers minority owner Dennis Wong, New Enterprise Associates, Conductive Ventures, Battery Ventures, Canaan Partners, SVB Capital, and Stanford University.

IN PIPELINE – HEALTHCARE DEALS 08-30-2018

• RootPath, a Cambridge-based biotechnology developing personalized T cell therapies for cancer, raised $7 million in seed funding. Sequoia Chinaled the round, and was joined by investors including Volcanics Venture, BV (Baidu Ventures) and Nest.Bio Ventures.

Nebula Genomics, a San Francisco and Boston-based human genome sequencing and health big data company, raised $4.3 million in seed funding. Investors include Khosla Ventures, Arch Venture Partners, Fenbushi Capital, Mayfield, F-Prime Capital Partners, Great Point Ventures, Windham Venture Partners, Hemi Ventures, Mirae Asset, Hikma Ventures and Heartbeat Labs.

Nanovis, a seller of nano-technology enhanced spinal implants, raised $5.5 million in funding.   Investors include Elevate Ventures, 1st Source Capital Corporation, Purdue’s Foundry Investment Fund, Commenda Capital and Ellipsis Ventures.

Harbour BioMed, a China-based biopharmaceutical company, raised $85 million in Series B funding. GIC Private Ltd led the round, and was joined by investors including China Life Private Equity Investment Co, Vertex Ventures, AdvanTech and Legend Capital.

• Arlington Capital Partners acquired Black Box Corp‘s government solutions division. Financial terms weren’t disclosed. The division will operate as Tyto Athene, a systems integrator and managed services provider of communications systems for the Department of Defense.

• Apollo Global Management agreed to buy Aspen Insurance Holdings Ltd (NYSE:AHL) in a deal valued at $2.6 billion. Apollo is paying $42.75 cash for each outstanding Aspen share.

• Serent Capital made a minority investment in GDS Link, a Dallas, Texas-based provider of credit risk management software. Financial terms weren’t disclosed.

• Baum Capital Partners recapitalized Goettl Air Conditioning, a Las Vegas-based provider of HVAC and plumbing maintenance, repair and replacement services. Financial terms weren’t disclosed.

• Sage Capital LLC made an investment in Check Corp, a Troy, Mich.-based maker of flexible heating elements, control systems, and related components. Financial terms weren’t disclosed.
