• Paladina Health, a Denver-based provider of healthcare services to patients through a membership-based primary care clinic, raised $165 million in funding. Investors include New Enterprise Associates, with participation from new investors Oak HC/FT, Alta Partners, and Greenspring Associates.

Sometimes it is better to copy or make something better overseas than try to enter the US market.  Paidy, a Japan-based fintech startup, raised funding of an undisclosed amount from Visa.

IN PIPELINE – VENTURE CAPITAL – 08-25-2018

• Evolve Vacation Rental Network, a Denver-based vacation rental management company, raised $80 million in funding. Investors include T. Rowe Price Associates, Inc, Winslow Capital Management, Foxhaven Asset Management, and Arrowmark Partners participated and are joined by existing investors Annox Capital, Allen & Company LLC, andPAR Capital Ventures.

• Upgrade Inc, a San Francisco-based consumer credit platform, raised $62 million in Series C funding. CreditEase Fintech Investment Fund led the round.

• Carmera, an operator of a road intelligence online platform for smart cities, raised $20 million in Series B funding. GV led the round, and was joined by investors including Matrix Partners.

• Robin Systems, a San Jose, Calif.-based provider of hyper-converged Kubernetes technology for big data, databases and AI/ML, raised $17 million in Series B funding. USAA Ventures led the round, and was joined by investors including Hasso Plattner Ventures, Clear Ventures and DN Capital USAA.

• Simple Feast, a Denmark-based plant-food startup, raised $12 million in Series A funding. Balderton Capital led the round, and was joined by investors including 14W.

• Cloudalize, a provider of graphics processing units, raised €5 million ($5.8 million) in Series A funding. Horizons Ventures led the round.

• MyAgData, an Effingham, Ill.-based agricultural-focused data analytics company, raised $2 million in funding. The investor was Open Prairie Rural Opportunities Fund.

IN on Deck – EBITDA is hot!

Our goal is networking for results!  Our moto is “Say Provocative statements that intelligent people argue about fast without dotting your i’s and crossing your t’s. As life is all about fun and results!” – JD Morris

However, the key word is RESULTS!  Today I am focusing on my results!  However, if you have a EBITDA company, please contact us as private equity firms are fighting to invest in $5 million plus EBITDA deals.  Now is the time for growth capital on great terms!

Here is list a few that closed recently:

• The Carlyle Group (Nasdaq:CG) acquired a majority stake in CMC Networks, a Johannesburg-based telecommunications carrier, for more than $100 million.

• Altus Capital Partners acquired MAX Environmental Technologies, a Pittsburgh-based environmental services company that treats, stores, and disposes of industrial waste. Financial terms weren’t disclosed.

Baldwin Technology Company, a manufacturer and supplier of process-automation equipment backed by Forsyth Capital Investors, acquired Air Motion Systems, a River Falls, Wis.-based provider of LED UV curing technology.

• Innovative Chemical Products, backed by Audax Private Equity, acquired MinusNine Technologies, a Birdsboro, Pa.-based formulator and manufacturer of UV/EB coatings, adhesives, primers, and specialty products for graphic arts and industrial applications. Financial terms weren’t disclosed.

• Waud Capital Partners invested in Minnesota Eye Consultants, a provider of clinical eye care services.

For fund I have to add the VC deal called GOAT, a Culver City, Calif.-based mobile app for buying and selling sneakers, raised $25 million in funding. Accel led the round, and was joined by Matrix Partners, Upfront Ventures, and Webb Investment Network.

  • Square, the San Francisco-based payments company led by Jack Dorsey, has raised $100 million in new funding at a valuation of nearly $6 billion, according to a Delaware filing obtained by VCExperts.com and shared with Fortune. Read more.
  • Inrix Inc., a Kirkland, Wash.-based provider of real-time traffic information technology, has sold a 10% equity stake for $55 million to Porsche Automobil Holding.The company previously raised around $78 million in VC funding from August Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, Kleiner Perkins and Venrock. www.inrix.com
  • Palantir, the secretive big data company known for its relationships with the CIA and NSA, has raised more than $50 million in new venture capital funding, according to an SEC filing. This brings the round total up to $444 million, as the Palo Alto, Calif.-based company appears to have held multiples closes since late last year.Read more.
  • Kateeva, a Menlo Park, Calif.-based maker of production equipment for OLED displays, has raised $38 million in Series D funding. Samsung Venture Investment Corp.led the round, and was joined by return backers Sigma Partners, Spark Capital, Madrone Capital Partners, DBL Investors, New Science Ventures and VEECO Instruments Inc.
