Abeona Therapeutics, a Cleveland-based biotech startup, said it closed $750,000 in seed financing to complete preclinical development of therapies for children with Sanfilippo Syndrome, a rare terminal genetic disorder that kills afflicted children before they reach their mid-teens. With this funding, more than $2 million has been raised to date for this initiative.www.abeonatherapeutics.com

Glue Networks, a Sacramento-based technology company focusing on Branch Wide Area Networks (WAN), has raised $12.4M from private investors. This follows the $4.5M angel round announced in December of 2010, bringing the company’s total funding to date to $16.9M.www.glunetworks.com

iROKOtv, the Africa-based movie platform for Nigerian (Nollywood) movies, announced a new funding round of $8 million, led by existing investor Tiger Global, with further participation from Sweden-based Kinnevik and new investor, US-based Rise Capital. iROKOtv, with ambitions to become the “Netflix of Africa,” (or, at the very least, of Nigeria, home to 162 million people) has raised $21 million to date. www.iROKOtv.com

Planet Labs, a San Francisco based satellite company, said that Yuri Milner, the Russian investor known for his bets on Facebook and Twitter, led a $53 million investment in the private company. Planet Labs, which was founded by three ex-NASA scientists, plan on launching 28 (Yes, 28!) image-gathering satellites into space. www.planet-labs.com
